What is it

Ankle sprains are among the most common injuries. If not properly rehabilitated, they can lead to instability and recurrence.

What can cause it

  • Inversion sprains
  • Achilles tendon overload
  • Reduced proprioception

How we treat it

  • Managing swelling and restoring mobility
  • Balance and proprioception exercises
  • Strengthening and gradual return to running and jumping

What to expect

A mild sprain recovers in a few weeks; more severe cases take a few months.

How to prevent it

  • Balance training
  • Calf strengthening

Do I need rehabilitation?

Recommended after any significant sprain and if the ankle often "gives way".
