What is it

Some types of headache, such as cervicogenic and tension-type headache, are influenced by the neck and muscle tension. In these cases physiotherapy can help reduce their frequency and intensity.

What can cause it

  • Dysfunction of the upper cervical spine
  • Muscle tension and prolonged postures
  • Stress and poor sleep quality

How we treat it

  • Assessment to distinguish between different types of headache
  • Manual therapy of the upper cervical spine
  • Specific exercises for the deep neck muscles
  • Strategies to manage triggers

What to expect

The goal is to reduce the frequency and intensity of episodes. Keeping a headache diary helps measure progress.

How to prevent it

  • Regular breaks
  • Consistent physical activity
  • Good sleep habits

Do I need rehabilitation?

Helpful if headache is associated with neck pain or stiffness. A sudden, severe headache, or one that feels different from usual, must be assessed by a doctor immediately.
