What is it

When pain lasts a long time, the nervous system becomes more sensitive: pain no longer necessarily means damage. Understanding this mechanism is the first step to living better.

What can cause it

  • Sensitisation of the nervous system
  • Unresolved injuries
  • Factors such as sleep, stress and inactivity

How we treat it

  • Pain neuroscience education
  • Graded exercise and meaningful activities
  • Shared, measurable goals

What to expect

A gradual programme aimed at increasing what you can do and reducing the impact of pain on your life.

How to prevent it

  • Stay active
  • Address pain that doesn't improve early

Do I need rehabilitation?
